 Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Coder Trainee to join our team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with a nursing background looking to transition into the field of medical coding. As a Medical Coder Trainee, you will receive comprehensive training to develop the skills necessary for accurate medical coding and billing, and you will work closely with our experienced coding team to ensure high-quality coding practices. 

Key Responsibilities: Training: Participate in structured training programs to learn medical coding procedures, terminology, and compliance requirements. Coding: Assist with coding and classifying medical diagnoses and procedures according to standard coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS). 

Documentation Review: Review medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy of information for coding purposes. Quality Assurance: Support efforts to maintain coding accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers, billing staff, and other departments to resolve coding-related issues and ensure smooth workflow. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest coding guidelines, industry changes, and advancements in medical coding.

 Qualifications: Education: Associates Degree or higher in Nursing or related healthcare field. Experience: No prior coding experience required; however, a background in nursing provides a strong foundation for understanding medical terminology and procedures. Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Computer Proficiency: Basic knowledge of computer applications and software. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) is a plus. Certification: While not required at the time of hire, obtaining certification such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is encouraged and supported.
